Devotional
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Timothy was a missionary of the early Christian church and a disciple of Paul, who eventually became the leader of the church in Ephesus. 1 and 2 Timothy are letters from Paul to Timothy that emphasize the need for our perseverance in faith during challenges.
My favorite chapter of both books is 2 Timothy 4. If you could look at my Bible, you would see that most of this chapter is highlighted.
There are several mentions that can help us in our life of faith, but a lot of these can apply directly to our pursuit of fitness as well. In chapter 4, Paul mentions that we must be ready in season and out of season, doing so with patience. He also mentions that people tend to listen to teachings that suit their beliefs, wandering off into myths.
We must have consistency in our training; we cannot train only when we feel like it’s needed. Having patience, and trusting the process, will always lead to greater results. Pushing ourselves at the moment it’s required will never lead to lasting results.
His second point in the early part of the chapter is that people will turn away from the truth, believing in myths that suit their passions.
There is no “get fit quick” program. People tend to gravitate towards trends, because we see people on social media who look how we want to look and they are promoting it.
In most cases, they did not get to where they are with what they are selling. A large majority got to where they are today through consistency and enduring steady challenges.
Keep the Lord at the center, remain faithful in the small things, and endure sound teaching.
Many people start strong, but few will finish strong.
Workout
I chose the topic of finishing strong because today marks the end of our 5-week strength training program.
You’ve put in the work. Now it’s time to see what that consistency has produced.
Today we’re working up to heavy singles on the bench press. Have fun, trust your training, and finish strong.
