Why Doesn’t God Tell Us Everything? | Isaiah 55:9
Devotional
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
We often want to understand why God allows certain things to happen, but Scripture reminds us that His wisdom far exceeds our own. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and we need to trust Him in every aspect of our life.
A couple verses later, it says that His words will not return empty, for all that he says will succeed in its purpose. God breathed life into each of us and designed us according to His purpose. If we trust in Him, we can be confident that His purpose will be accomplished.
We must recognize that our wisdom is limited, just as a child relies on the wisdom of a parent. Growing up, we may not have understood when we made a decision and it got vetoed by a parent.
Looking back, we likely have a better understanding of their reasoning, but it’s okay if we don’t. Just as a loving parent acts for a child’s good, God works for our good even when we cannot understand His reasons.
We hear all the time that God has a plan and we often leave ourselves questioning what that is, but true happiness comes when we take our hands off the wheel and allow him to guide us. Our understanding will always be limited and He does not owe us an explanation.
When we’re training, we don’t always understand why a coach programs certain exercises. We may wonder why we’re doing lighter weights, extra conditioning, or movements that don’t seem directly related to our goals. But a good coach sees the bigger picture. He knows how today’s workout fits into a larger plan.
God’s wisdom is infinitely greater than any coach’s. There will be times when we don’t understand what He is doing in our lives or why He allows certain circumstances. But just because we don’t understand the plan doesn’t mean there isn’t one.
If we trust and believe that He is our Lord and Savior, then we can rest assured that God’s plan will always succeed. Even when we don’t understand what He is doing, we can trust the One whose wisdom is higher than our own.
Workout
Today was the hardest workout of the program so far. By the time I reached the final set of push-ups, I had to break the 15 reps into 6, 4, 3, and 2. It was much harder than I anticipated, but we still got it done.
Sometimes training doesn’t make sense in the moment. We don’t always know why a workout feels harder than expected, just as we don’t always understand what God is doing in our lives. But we keep moving forward, trusting the process and doing the work set before us.
